Impact

A) Submission to the Novo Nordisk Foundation

Our medical working group has produced a concrete proposal, which was developed by AcadREx in collaboration with Godfrey University in Nigeria. Special thanks go to our Vice President, Kurt Widhalm, and our deeply committed member, Paula Moliterno, who made these submissions possible.

As part of the Novo Nordisk Foundation’s Global Science Summit Program 2026:

Project title: CARDIO-HID Nigeria: Repurposing Human Identification Laboratory Infrastructure for Locally Calibrated Cardiometabolic Risk Prediction

B) In addition, a project group has been formed that plans to submit concrete implementation proposals by the end of 2026. The project group includes Kurt Widhalm and Paula Molterno representing AcadREx, while the project team from the Nigerian partner, GODFREY OKOYE UNIVERSITY, consists of Ezra Dominic, Chidiebere Njoku-Chukwu, and Omeje Ikechukwu Collins.

Three major project ideas were discussed:

1. Micronutrient Preservation in Traditional Cooking Practices: Investigating how traditional food preparation and cooking methods affect the retention of micronutrients in commonly consumed vegetables and foods.

2. Mobile/WhatsApp-Based Nutrition Intervention: Developing a simple digital nutrition education intervention using WhatsApp or SMS prompts to provide mothers with practical nutrition information and guidance.

3. School Food Environment and Child Nutrition: Examining how the food environment around schools influences children’s dietary choices, nutritional status, and potential risks of malnutrition or obesity.

C) Our Haiti project group has completed the work on the practical implementation of the project. The project’s target audience has already been informed, and concrete steps are being taken.
